Bad Vibrations: A Historical Account of the Malign Effects of Music

Radiohead: Lotus Flower from The King of Limbs [the world’s first “newspaper album”]

Dr. James Kennaway of Durham University presents a historical account of the malign effects of music. From Benjamin Franklin to Barney the Dinosaur, Bad Vibrations explores how physicians, psychotherapists, doctors and politicians have attempted to draw links between music, mental health, the rise of Communism, the premature death of houseplants and Satanism.

James has recently published a book on the subject:

Bad Vibrations: The History of the Idea of Music As Cause of Disease (The History of Medicine in Context)
