I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving day meal but, I'm sure that yours could in no way hold a candle (literally) to my pioneer-style evening -- cooked entirely outdoors over an open fire.
The menu: smoked duck, mashed potatoes, duck gravy, homemade stuffing (mushrooms, onion, garlic, red pepper and croutons) asparagus with hollandaise sauce...
Where are those leftovers?!
leftovers – mmm, breakfast
All served outdoors on one of the only bug-free, star-filled nights Florida has witnessed in a long time. Accompanied by a bottle of Cabernet and candle light, it honestly couldn't have been any better.
Puter and Kitty Kitty were also treated -- to a chicken liver pate. They too are fat and happy today, thanks in part to your donations.
A Happy Side Note
This morning, the rain held off just long enough for me to roast some dried holly leaves and brew myself a cup of the black drink. Overall, I find it an enjoyable and invigorating tea, especially with a small teaspoon of sugar added. I’ll be harvesting more leaves for this delightful free coffee substitute soon.
In the beginning, when I first lost electricity, I thought I’d have a difficult time adjusting. However, camping, hurricanes and living aboard were all the perfect teachers. Lessons on how things really work have all come flooding back, as needed.
I now find that I’m thoroughly loving living the unplugged life and I’m beginning to wonder whether modern conveniences are worth all the effort.
