The In My Backyard tool estimates how much electricity you can produce through solar and wind power in your own backyard.
Just type in your address, draw where to place your green gadgets and presto! Real numbers.
Based the calculations above, a 5 kW solar system installed on my home in sunny Northern Florida would only generate enough power to supply 1/3 of my current monthly consumption. Not good enough. Time for Plan B.
My solution? Rather than retrofit my house to make it more efficient, I'm going to trade it in for a "green boat" something like this one (specs) from my buddy Walter at Constellation Yachts. After all, what better way to walkabout than sailabout?
Now, if Santa would just come through with those winning lotto ticket numbers...
