[Squash, Corn, Beans]
~ ~ ~
If you plant corn with squash and beans, that's called "Three Sisters". Corn provides shade for the squash and a place for runner/pole beans to climb. The beans, in turn, help to replenish the soil with nitrogen for the corn. Squash provide living mulch that keeps moisture in, spikey parts that help keep critters off of the corn and overall weed control.
Grown together these vegetables thrive and provide high-yield, high-quality crops with a minimal environmental impact.
Cooked together, all three make a great complete-protein meal, often called "succotash".
