The South Carolina Thompsons exemplify simple living.
Both born and raised during the Great Depression, they say that theirs was not an easy life but, that experience makes them appreciate what they have now. It shows. They both smile a lot.
"We don't deal with credit at all," explains Mrs. Thompson. "We don't have credit cards.
"We sold his car and bought the stove and refrigerator. We're still using both of them," she said, showing off her modest kitchen packed with home-preserved food.
Speaking of their pantry, their home and their few humble belongings Mr. Thompson adds, "Our happiness is right here."
