The Death of Haute Couture

The Devil may be the only one wearing Prada these days. At fashion's Paris show, the event of the year, the question wasn’t so much “look who’s here”, but “where is everyone?” Two key Vogue editors (Anna Wintour and Alexandra Shulman) remained conspicuous by their absence. At Jean Paul Gaultier’s show, for the first time in memory, the white-gloved ushers urged those at the back to move forward and fill the rows of empty seats. Amongst his new range of corsets and masses of fur Gaultier's collection defined the Paris event with a single showstopper. Flanked by images of Hollywood icons past, his white shrouded model was a haunting visage of the death of haute couture.
