Still a Pig

One day you're a presidential candidate... You're on top of the world and everybody loves you... Well, 49% of 22 foreign countries, that is [what do they know]... The next day, you're being called a sexist pig...

After Gov. Sarah Palin's joking self-reference last week as a pitbull with lipstick, the aim of Barack Obama's "lipstick on a pig" reference is clear and way out of line.

It's not often one is priviledged to witness the decisive end of a presidential hopefull's career. This is truly an historic night.

I couldn't disagree more. Palin does not have "Lipstick" trademarked. Just because she called herself an animal with lipstick (pitbull), I see no reason to associate Obama's comments with her if you know where the reference comes from. The current GOP campaign has all the characteristics of "Putting Lipstick on a Pig." And can can be criticized as such.

Stop hiding behind Palin. It's very sad.

Perception is 9/10ths of politics and Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” remark is being perceived as an attack on Gov. Palin.

Given the brief time span between Palin’s and Obama’s lipstick remarks, I don’t see how Palin’s lipstick self-reference could NOT have been on Obama’s mind as he spoke. Indeed, Obama’s hesitation, body language and his audience’s reaction all suggest that it was.

Comments from women, as published in the New York Post:

"I thought it was unbelievably inappropriate," said Jean Hope of Fredericksburg, Va., who went to hear McCain and Palin speak at the duo's biggest rally yet - with attendance of 23,000.

"There's no cause for behavior like that . . . He just insulted all of us who wear lipstick," she added.

Pam Arledge, of Spotsylvania, Va., said, "It was the lowest kind of comment that a nationally recognized politician and senator could ever make. It was the worst mistake he's made on the campaign trail and it will haunt him."

~

Added Dr. Lynette Long, a former Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter, "Well, Mr. Obama, calling girls names is something you do in fifth grade. And I don't want a fifth-grader running the country."

~

Said Mary Jane King, of Fredericksburg, "I think they're getting down and dirty. They will do anything to try to destroy Sarah Palin as vice president."

~

Her friend Cheryl Snyder said, "I even ran to the store and got another tube of lipstick."
